Dr. Holms Hotel is perhaps Norway's most famous mountain resort hotel, known for its afterski, a lot of media coverage and the many wealthy people who own an apartment here. Located above the center of Geilo, just a two minute walk from the train station and a few minutes from the ski slopes. Dr.Holms was established in 1909 as a health resort for people with respiratory problems. The hotel opened its doors the same year as the railway between Oslo and Bergen, so here the wealthy in both cities went to enjoy the fresh mountain air 800 m above sea level. Since then, Holms has been a meeting point between east and west of Norway. Many major upgrades over the years have preserved the hotel's status as one of Norway's most luxurious resorts. The hotel now has two restaurants; the main restaurant and Bowl and Dine - an American diner with bowling alley which also deliver food to the Sportsbar next door. You can also rent smaller dining rooms and the wine cellar for special occasions. The ski bar and the associated lounge are the place for Dr. Holms’ famous afterski every Saturday during the winter season and every day during Christmas and Easter. If you are a hotel guest and feel that the afterski is to crowdy or loud, you can relax in the library (at the end of the lounge). Here you can close the doors and enjoy the tranquility, with a great view of Geilo. Dr. Holms honors its history as a health resort with a very nice spa and a pool area with main pool, two children's pools and an indoor and outdoor whirlpool. The hotel has started the refurbishment of some of the rooms to keep up with the newly refurbished Highland and Vestlia Resort.
