The famous Norwegian chef and Bocuse
d’Or winner Ørjan Johanessen and his
family, known for their hotel and
restaurants in Bekkjarvik in Western
Norway, have opened a new restaurant at
Highland Lodge in Geilo.
Smakeriet Beefbar comes as a welcome
addition to the pizzeria and bakery that is
already there, and brings forward the
concept from Smakeriet Burgerbar in
Bekkjarvik, which the signs at the entrance
clearly state.
Inside, the interior is comfortable and
modern, with chairs in both leather and
rough fabric, combined with areas with
softer, colorful velvet chairs. The tables
along the walls have soft benches and no
tablecloths. In contrast, some of the round
tables in the center have white tablecloths.
The kitchen is located behind a colorful
wall with a large opening to the restaurant.
This is where Ørjan Johanessen and his
crew do their magic. several of the dishes
are prepared on a Josper grill.
On the menu you will find snacks and
small dishes such as French onion soup,
beef tartar, croque monsieur, chicken
satay salad and even caviar and oysters.
The main courses include tasty burgers
and many steak varieties, from entrecote
and BBQ pork ribs to Waguy steak from
Japan.
The menu offers something for every taste
and wallet, but if you go for a steak, there
are sauces, potatoes in various forms and
other extras in addition - which are added
to an already relatively steep price.
Smakeriet aimes at the exclusive part of
the restaurant market in Geilo, which is
welcome!
