Summer
Geilo is just as good in summer as in winter. There is a wide range of hiking opportunities,
whether you walk or use a mountain bike. Several of the lifts are open and transport people up
the mountain. Vestlia summer park offers a number of activities: one of Norway's longest Zip-
lines, climbing park, golf, frisbee golf, cyclocross and off-road cycling. If you want a swim, Geilo
Beach by the Ustedalsfjord is an alternative to the swimmingpools at the hotels. Dagali offers both
rafting and go-carting. Tap each of the photos to open the video in YouTube
ABOUT ONE HOUR FROM GEILO
Geilo in summer
Geilo is a mountain village and ski
destination located in the center of southern
Norway. In this video, we explore the area in
the summer, with its fantastic mountain
roads and hiking trails, rivers and waterfalls,
lakes and not least Hallingskarvet Mountain
Ridge. We also give you a taste and an
overview of what you can do here in the
summer.
Lake Ustedalsfjord Roundtrip
Ustedalsfjorden plays an important role in
the activities Geilo has to offer, both summer
and winter. To give you an impression of the
beautiful landscape and the diversity of
sights, we take you on a tour, crossing small
rivers, a large waterfall, historic Viking
tombs, dense forest, a golf course and the
beach at Geilo - often called Geilo Beach.
Hike suggestion: Prestholt-Tuftelia
Geilo has many beautiful mountain trails and
this is one of the best. You can either start at
Tuftelia, 4 km west of Geilo and take a round
trip or start a bit more east of Prestholt at the
foot of Hallingskarvet and just walk down to
Tuftelia. You meet both deserted mountain
landscapes, rivers and waterfalls, steep
gorges and forests on your way, with some
fantastic viewpoints over Geilo and
Ustedalen.
Geilo High Rope Course
In this video we visit Geilo High Rope Course,
which is part of Geilo Summer Park in
Vestlia. There are challenges for all, with a
small trail for the little ones and a larger one
with several zip lines, nets and other
challenges for those over 140 cm.
Tuftebrui
An old timber bridge in the innermost part of
Lake Ustedalsfjord which must be crossed if
you follow the hiking trail around the lake. In
summer, the water masses are often large
and fascinating. The video explains about the
bridge and its history
Geilo Zipline
We have tested the zipline in Geilo, which is
one of the longest in Norway. It is located in
Vestlia, as part of Geilo Summer Park. Unlike
Flåm Zipline which is longer, this allows you
to rotate both horizontally and vertically - if
you want to …
Juvefossen
Norway has many beautiful waterfalls.
Juvefossen, which is located only four km
west of Geilo - is a hidden gem, especially
during the snowmelt every spring. The
waterfall receives water both from
Ustevannet and from the rivers by
Hallingskarvet
Tuva Turisthytte
Tuva Turisthytte is located at 1200 m on the
Hardangervidda. By foot or skies, it is not very
far from Ustaoset and is a nice trip both in
winter and summer. In summer it is possible to
drive by car via Skurdalen. In this video we visit
the café and explore the beautiful mountain
area in the summer. A perfect starting point for
hiking.
Budalen and the back of Hallingskarvet
A gravel road to the back of Hallingskarvet.
Once you have climbed the first steep climb
you will encounter a flat and open mountain
area with beautiful lakes and great views. In
the summer you can drive all the way to
Vestrheim, in the winter you reach Vestrheim
by ski slopes
Crossing Hardangervidda Mountain
Plateau
Hardangervidda is the largest national park
in the Nordic countries, and covers an area
of 8600 km2. In this video, we cross
Hardangervidda twice - first in the summer,
then we return just after the first snow has
fallen in early October. A trip we warmly
recommended when the weather allows it
Prestholtseter
Far up in the mountains behind Geilo and at
the foot of Hallingskarvet you find
Prestholtseter, a popular destination both in
summer and winter. Here you can buy genuine
traditional Norwegian mountain cuisine as
cured meats, “rømmegrøt”, waffles and thin
"lefse", served in traditional premises. Of
course you can also get a long-awaited Solo or
a bar of Kvikk Lunch chocolate.
Sysendammen
In the western part of Hardangervidda,
where the mountains dive into the fjords,
you will find one of Norway's largest dams.
This is also a tourist attraction for both
visitors who pass by car and for cruise
tourists who visit Eidfjord in Hardanger.
Vøringsfossen
The viewing platforms and the bridge over
Vøringsfossen are some of the most
spectacular in Norway. All three phases of the
project, which is part of the National Tourist
Routes, are now complete. You can park either
down by the bridge or at the new car park
below Fossli hotel.
Eidfjord
Eidfjord is a small village in the heart of the
Hardangerfjord, which has become one of
Norway's largest cruise ports. In a normal
year, more than 100 cruise ships visit the
village. There are cafes, several galleries, a
large hotel and an Italian ice cream parlor. A
nice stop on the trip between Geilo and
Bergen / Vestlandet.
